Saturday 3rd May.

Bromley (formerly ‘Broomleag’) gets its name from the profusion of broom that flowered on Martin’s Hill. The broom had all but disappeared by the 1980’s but it has revived and in recent years there has been a spectacular display of yellow flowers across the hillside.
In the Glades, we will have:
- * An Exhibition about the Broom in Bromley and panels showing the history of Bromley.
- * pots of broom in flower so you can see the shrub Bromley was named after,
- * activities for children,
- * a selfie-spot with a ‘bower’ with a bench which doubles as a photo opportunity.
At 11:00am we there was a walk from the Glades out to Martin’s Hill, led by Mayor in his robes, hat and chain of office. At Martins Hill there was a display of broom flowers, a display and some folk songs.
This year, the lovely decorations have been provided by volunteers at the Hub by Greener and Cleaner Bromley, utilising material that has been recycled.
